Ogdensburg Youth Lacrosse will be offering sign-ups for area youth to play “The Fastest Game on Two Feet.” Boys and girls in grades Pre-K-6 will learn the basics of the sport and participate in practice, games and play dates in March, April, May and June.
Cost is $50 per child. Children in Pre-K and kindergarten will be $25.
Sign-ups will be held March 7 from 6-8 p.m. and March 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Dobisky Visitors’ Center, 100 Riverside Ave., Ogdensburg, or they can log onto oburglacrosse.teampages.com and sign-up online beginning March 1.
Coaches are needed for boys teams in grades K and 1-2. A coaches meeting will be held March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dobisky Visitors Center, 100 Riverside Ave. For more information or if you would like help coach those teams, contact oburglacrosse@twcny.rr.com.

What is Lacrosse?

Lacrosse is an exhilarating sport, featuring sprints up and down the field, precision passes, dodges, and lots of goal scoring. The sport combines many of the elements of basketball, soccer, and hockey. It is also a sport that anyone can play – the big and the small. Lacrosse uses the whole body, and it does not require a certain body type. It is a game that rewards coordination and agility, not brawn. Lacrosse is also the fastest growing sport in the country at both the high school and college levels. Invented by the North American Indians, the first high school game was played in 1882. And women started playing lacrosse not long thereafter in 1890. Field lacrosse is sometimes perceived by those unfamiliar with the game to be a violent and dangerous game, however, injury statistics prove otherwise. While serious injuries can and do occur in lacrosse, the game has evolved with an emphasis on safety, and the rate of injury is comparatively low. Compared to other team sports there are few head or knee injuries. Below is a link to the “Nationwide Parents Guide” and a short video entitled “What is lacrosse?” both on the US Lacrosse site.
